Meet David L. Watkins
David L. Watkins is a poet, an illustrator, and the author of ten children’s books. AFRImations is a departure from his usual publishings. His Growing Up Series focuses on essential character traits which will help children as they travel through life. Watkins' other series, The ABC Series, uses the letters of the alphabet to introduce youngsters to various subjects. Watkins has recited his poetry at various functions and has won contests for his rhymes. Yes, his poetry rhymes - a throwback to Langston Hughes, Longfellow or Paul Laurence Dunbar. Watkins promises that there will be more non-fiction works as well as more children’s literature in the future.
David L. Watkins, a member of SCBWI and American MENSA, is an avid reader. "My mother used to repeat the phrase 'Without the love of books, the richest man is poor' to me and my brothers when we were young. I guess that I took it to heart," says Watkins. His reading interests range from mysteries to philosophy to baseball books and almost everything in between.
David is a postal worker and a member of the Church of Christ. Watkins resides with his wife, Linda Watkins, in Detroit, Michigan.
